Biography

Having roots in the heart of the south, Elizabeth Long, or Lizzy as her friends and fans know her was born on January 19, 1984 and raised on a farm in Lincolnton, Georgia.  Her father owned a logging company while her mother worked as a paramedic.

Lizzy attended Lincoln County High and was active in a myriad of endeavors including photo editing for the yearbook, tennis, and “all kinds of stuff” as she puts it.  Her favorite academic subject was history, and her favorite activities are playing chess, riding horses, and, of course…….computer games.

She began her music accomplishment at an early age and her interests are very eclectic ranging from Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn to the Earl Scruggs Revue to Fleetwood Mac.  While starting out on the piano, Lizzy soon took up the fiddle, guitar, autoharp, bass banjo, and mandolin, and has become an accomplished musician, alternating between these instruments as part of her entertainment repertoire.

Continuing her quest for success, Lizzy’s post-secondary education is from Glenville State College with an Associate Degree in Business Law (2004) accompanied by musical orchestration and arranging from Belmont University (2005).  Lizzy finds that singing helps to express her thoughts and emotions—whether happy, sad, disappointed or angry—and, in her own words, “I don’t have to answer why, why not or even when….I can let it just flow”, and her extraordinary voice shimmers with strains of America’s musical roots.

Her favorite song?  “The Swimming Song” from the Earl Scruggs Revue.

Lizzy’s mentors are nothing less than superstars in the music industry, Earl Scruggs, Little Roy Lewis, Mac Wiseman…..to name a few.  And, perhaps it was destiny.  One of her first memories includes a trip home from school—her aunt and grandma brought her a lime sherbet ice cream and picked her up….but forgot to close the door so good.  Out falls Lizzy, not the worse for wear, but where? In the front of the Lewis Family home.

This is Elizabeth Long, Lizzy—destined for an indelible imprint in American music.

Hey everyone!!!

Everything has been so busy...These last couple of weeks have been a blast! On Sept.13 I attended "A Tribute to Earl Scruggs" in Atlanta Ga and played with 300 or so banjo pickers to show our most beloved Hero how much we appreciate him. Earl was there and he had a great time watching the baseball game and watching all the banjo pickers pick for him...Which was a sight! To find out more about what happened go to http://www.banjo.com or http://www.atlantabraves.com and click on the galleries!

I also have been playing some shows with my twin sister and two college friends in West Virginia. The Group is called "Mountain Fury" and we have been doing pretty good on dates and everyone is loving the shows...so I will just keep playing with them. Everyone should check out the new dates and come see us! This marks the first time I have played professionally with my sister. She is doing really well!....her name is Rebekah, the other two girls are Eileen Marsh and Rachel Singleton.

Last but not least...I still go home and play music with Little Roy. He keeps me informed about what's going on and what silly things he has done. We still do shows together...which are listed on the schedule. Little Roy and Bonnie have been remodeling the house which keeps me at bay! My Room there is packed with their furniture and clothes and needless to say my bed is taken. Sooooo..........a few more weeks and I should be able to get my bed back! HA! I still live in Nashville, I just like to go home and do what Little Roy and Bonnie calls...frolic? Anyway...God Bless you all and remember to come see me, call me, or even write me!
